John Woodbury, a 35-year-old resident of Roswell, Georgia, has been sentenced to seventeen months in prison for threatening former FBI Director Christopher Wray. The sentence follows Woodbury's guilty plea to transmitting threats to injure the then-FBI Director.
U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg stated, "My office has zero tolerance for threats against law enforcement officers. Threatening to harm public servants who enforce our criminal laws weakens the foundation of our society and will be punished accordingly."
FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown added, "The functioning of our democracy requires that our country’s public servants be able to do their jobs without fearing for their lives. The sentencing of John Woodbury is yet another example of the FBI’s commitment to holding those accountable who threaten public officials."
According to information presented in court by U.S. Attorney Hertzberg, on June 7, 2023, Woodbury posted a message on 4chan.org threatening violence against then-FBI Director Wray. The message included what was purportedly Wray's home address and urged violent action against him.
United States District Judge Sarah E. Geraghty sentenced Woodbury earlier today. Following his prison term, he will undergo three years of supervised release. He was convicted after pleading guilty on April 18, 2025.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation into this case.
