Governor Newsom addresses court ruling on immigration enforcement practices

Governor Gavin Newsom has responded to a court ruling that temporarily halts federal immigration agents from conducting suspicionless stops in California. The case, Vasquez Perdomo, et al. v. Noem, resulted in a decision that prevents these actions by federal officials.

In his statement, Governor Newsom expressed relief at the court's intervention. "Justice prevailed today — the court’s decision puts a temporary stop to federal immigration officials violating people’s rights and racial profiling," he stated.

Newsom criticized Stephen Miller's approach to immigration as chaotic and cruel, accusing federal officials of arbitrary detentions and family separations aimed at meeting arrest quotas without due process. He emphasized the need for adherence to constitutional rights and urged the Trump administration to align with these principles.

"California stands with the law, and the foundation upon which our founding fathers built this country. I call on the Trump administration to do the same," Newsom added.

The governor's remarks come amidst ongoing debates over immigration policies and enforcement tactics in the United States.
