Theodore S. Hertzberg named interim US attorney for Northern District of Georgia

Attorney General Pamela Bondi has appointed Theodore S. Hertzberg as the Interim United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. This appointment is in accordance with 28 U.S.C. § 546, which allows the Attorney General to appoint a United States Attorney when the position is vacant. The appointment became effective on May 13, 2025, and Chief U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr. administered Mr. Hertzberg’s oath of office on May 14, 2025.

Mr. Hertzberg brings nearly a decade of experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney to his new role. He began his career with the Justice Department at the Savannah headquarters of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia, where he prosecuted violent criminals and handled asset forfeiture cases. In 2018, he moved to Atlanta and joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, focusing on prosecuting gang leaders and other serious offenders.

Before joining the Department of Justice, Mr. Hertzberg practiced law at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP in New York and served as a law clerk to Honorable Kristi K. DuBose in Alabama's Southern District Court.

Mr. Hertzberg holds degrees from Amherst College and New York University School of Law.
