Robert Crockett Administrative Services Deputy Director | State of California DMV
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the relocation of its Eureka office from 3300 Broadway St., Suite 906 to a new site at 2500 6th St. The current office will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16, and the new location is set to open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4.
The existing DMV office has been operating out of Bayshore Mall since 2019 while the department sought a permanent facility. The new building offers significantly more space, with an area of 10,858 square feet compared to the current 4,832 square feet. Additionally, it provides more parking and outdoor space for vehicle inspections.
During the transition period, customers are advised to visit alternative DMV offices in nearby areas:
- Garberville: Located at 1180 Evergreen Road, Suite A, this office is open only on Tuesday and Thursday and is situated 66 miles from the current Eureka office.
- Crescent City: Found at 1475 Parkway Drive, this office operates on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and is located 88 miles away.
- Weaverville: Positioned at 1511 Main St., this office opens on Tuesday and Thursday and is about 106 miles distant.
The DMV emphasizes that many services do not require an in-person visit. "Before Going to an Office – Try Online First," advises the department. Numerous transactions can be completed through their digital services platform. Customers are encouraged to use online services for tasks such as driver's license renewals and vehicle registration.
To further facilitate paperless processes, customers can opt-in for electronic renewal notices by creating a secure account at dmv.ca.gov.
