The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is emphasizing the importance of the upcoming federal requirements for domestic air travel for senior drivers. Starting May 7, 2025, a REAL ID will be necessary for those who wish to use their California driver's license or identification card to fly within the United States.

Through a series of planned social media posts, the DMV is urging seniors to prepare for these changes. The department's campaign highlights that obtaining a REAL ID is crucial for continuing to use a license for domestic flights. The DMV is offering a free REAL ID identification card to residents aged 62 and older, encouraging them to apply at "REALID.dmv.ca.gov/seniors."

The promotional messages target seniors with reminders that, besides flying, the REAL ID will allow holders to enter secure federal facilities and military bases come May 2025. Seniors are advised not to wait to start their application process and are encouraged to have the REAL ID ready for airport security checks. The campaign slogan, "Reach for Your REAL ID / Reach Your Destination," encapsulates this call to action.

The DMV is also releasing supporting images and graphics across social media on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. A promotional video accompanies the effort to spread awareness and prompt action among senior citizens regarding the forthcoming changes.
