The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has launched a social media toolkit targeting educators for its REAL ID awareness campaign. The REAL ID will be mandatory for domestic flights in the United States starting May 7, 2025. To assist educators in obtaining the necessary REAL ID, the California DMV is offering a dedicated resource page at REALID.dmv.ca.gov/educators.

In a series of suggested social media posts, the DMV encourages educators to take advantage of school breaks to apply for a REAL ID. They highlight the ease of the application process, which includes filling out an application online, uploading documents, and visiting a DMV office to complete the process.

In one post, the DMV states, "Benjamin Franklin taught us 'Don’t put off ‘til tomorrow what can be done today!' #Lessonlearned! Get your #REALID this summer." Acknowledging the busy schedules of educators, another suggestion notes, "Getting a REAL ID is way easier than grading a book report!" emphasizing the simplicity of the application process.

The social media toolkit includes various copy options and supporting graphics that can be shared on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Each post is crafted to resonate with the educators' community, using phrases familiar to teaching professionals.

The DMV also aims to ease concerns about fitting the real ID into educators' schedules. "Summer Schedule: Wake up. That’s it. That’s the schedule. Fit in getting your #REALID before you’re back to not having enough hours in the day," reads one post, suggesting that the summer break is an ideal time for educators to obtain their REAL ID without pressing time constraints.

With an active presence on social media at @cadmv and several hashtags like #CADMV and #REALID, the DMV seeks to create awareness and streamline the process for educators preparing to meet the new federal ID requirements.
