Aliakbar Mohammad Amin has been arrested and charged with making interstate threats against Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and her family, according to a criminal complaint. Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. stated that “threatening to harm public officials is a criminal act that cannot be excused as political discourse,” and emphasized the commitment to prosecuting such acts of violence.
Paul Brown, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, asserted the seriousness of threatening communications as federal offenses. He warned, “Let this arrest serve as a clear warning: if you engage in this kind of criminal behavior, you will be caught and you will go to prison.”
The investigation revealed that between March 29 and April 1, 2025, Amin allegedly sent threatening text messages to Gabbard and her husband. The messages included statements such as: “You and your family are going to die soon” and “I will personally do the job if necessary.” Additional messages conveyed threats of violence against Gabbard’s home, asserting it as a "legitimate target."
Federal agents discovered similar threats on social media by Amin, including images of firearms aimed at photographs of Gabbard and her husband. A firearm was found in a search of Amin’s residence.
Amin, 24, from Lilburn, Georgia, was officially charged on April 11, 2025, under Title 18, United States Code, Section 875(c). Following his initial federal court appearance, Amin was detained pending trial by a U.S. Magistrate Judge.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide effort utilizing the Department of Justice's resources to tackle illegal immigration and criminal organizations and to protect communities from violence.
