Serenity Thompson Deputy Director of Digital Services | State of California DMV
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the temporary closure of its Quincy office located at 1953 E. Main St., Suite 3. The closure is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, for repainting purposes. The office is expected to reopen on Monday, January 6, at 8 a.m.
During this period, DMV customers are advised to visit alternative offices in the area. Options include the Truckee office at 11357 Donner Pass Road, Suite I, which is approximately 69 miles from Quincy. Another option is the Susanville office located at 2615 Main St., about 70 miles away; however, this location operates only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
The DMV emphasizes that many services can be accessed online without visiting an office. "Before Going to an Office – Try Online First," the DMV advises. The department has expanded its digital offerings to allow customers to complete most tasks online. These include simple self-service transactions that are no longer available in physical offices.
For those needing driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals or other services, the DMV encourages using its online platform and service channels. Customers can also use the Service Advisor feature on the DMV website to explore their options for completing various DMV tasks.
Additionally, customers interested in receiving paperless notices for vehicle registration and driver’s license renewals can do so by creating a secure online account and registering at dmv.ca.gov.
