Garamendi honors women leaders for community contributions in annual awards

Today, Congressman John Garamendi held his 11th annual Women of the Year event in Benicia, California. During the ceremony, he honored 42 women from California's 8th Congressional District. These women were recognized for their leadership and contributions to public service, business, education, and the local economy.

"Every year, I have the privilege of celebrating the remarkable achievements and contributions of outstanding women in California's 8th District," said Garamendi. "These leaders come from diverse backgrounds, and each has had a profound impact on their communities and those around them. It is a privilege to honor their efforts."

He further noted that "their commitment and passion for service merit this recognition, and through this award, their contributions will be preserved and documented in the official Congressional Record in Washington, D.C."

The honorees hailed from various parts of Contra Costa County and Solano County. The list includes Angel Greer from Pittsburg; Barbara Akoro from Bay Point; Bisa French from Richmond; Blanca Hernandez from Crockett; Carole Paterson from Fairfield; Claryssa Wilson from Antioch; Dr. Myra Altman from Kensington; Genoveva Garcia Calloway from San Pablo; Harpreet Sidhu from Hercules; LaShonda White also from Richmond among others.

From Solano County were Brigette Hunley of Fairfield; Caroline Villarreal also of Fairfield; Captain Rachel Marron at Travis Air Force Base; Chief Master Sergeant Sandrine Hanley at Travis Air Force Base as well as many other notable figures including Dr. Bonnie Hamilton (Fairfield), Guillermina Loera-Diaz (Vallejo), Kathy Kerridge (Benicia) and more.
