Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato in Washington to discuss Japan’s strategic investment plans in the United States. The talks focused on the U.S.-Japan trade and investment agreement.

Both officials addressed issues relevant to the economic relationship between the two countries. They discussed global security and reaffirmed their commitment to G7 efforts aimed at increasing economic pressure on Russia.

“We discussed important issues pertaining to the U.S.-Japan economic relationship, including global security and the importance of G7 commitments to increase economic pressure on Russia,” Secretary Bessent said.

The meeting comes as both nations seek to strengthen their cooperation amid ongoing international challenges.
