The Reinsurance Association of America announced on May 18 that Susan Donegan will join the organization as Senior Vice President, Head of State Relations, starting June 1.
Donegan previously served as Chief Regulatory Officer at the National Council on Compensation Insurance. She also held the position of Commissioner at the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation, where she oversaw insurance, captive insurance, banking, and securities sectors.
“Susan brings a powerful combination of regulatory, political, policy, legal, and industry expertise that will be invaluable to RAA and our members,” said Tracey Laws, President and CEO of the Reinsurance Association of America. “Her leadership, strategic approach and strong domestic and international experience will elevate our efforts to achieve results to protect and enhance the reinsurance industry.”
Throughout her career in both public and private sectors, Donegan has served in senior leadership roles such as Counsel to the Commissioner at the Massachusetts Division of Insurance. She practiced law in Boston and Amsterdam. As Vermont Commissioner she participated in several committees with national and international insurance associations. At NCCI she led engagement with state insurance departments across 36 states as well as federal agencies.
Donegan holds a Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School along with two LL.M degrees focused on banking/financial services law and European/international trade law. She is admitted to practice law in multiple U.S. states as well as England, Ireland, and Wales.
