Daimler Truck Financial Services USA LLC (DTFS) and GEICO have announced the launch of Connected Insurance, a program aimed at Freightliner and Western Star owner-operators and small fleets. The initiative uses real-time telematics data to help customers save on insurance premiums and promote safer driving.

The Connected Insurance program is an enhancement of GEICO's DriveEasy Pro, using Detroit Connect telematics data from trucks to enable more accurate underwriting. This allows eligible customers to receive up to 10 percent savings on their commercial vehicle insurance premiums without installing extra hardware in their vehicles.

Kevin Bangston, president and CEO of Daimler Truck Financial Services North America, said: "Daimler Truck Financial Services will always be focused on delivering comprehensive and innovative financial solutions tailored to the unique needs of our customers. This strategic partnership with GEICO introduces a smart, data-driven insurance option that helps our customers reduce one of their largest operational expenses."

Chris Sions, GEICO's head of partnerships, stated: "Real-time data from Daimler Truck's telematics platform allows us to better assess risk, reward safe driving, and deliver meaningful savings to our customers. Expanding our commercial trucking insurance nationwide requires strong partnerships like the one we've built with Daimler Truck Financial Services."

The introduction of this program comes as insurance costs remain a significant challenge for trucking carriers, particularly small businesses. According to research by the American Transportation Research Institute, these costs are among the top challenges faced by carriers in the industry.

GEICO’s move into commercial trucking coverage expands options specifically for Freightliner and Western Star customers. The program was developed with input from owner-operators and industry professionals and combines telematics data with analytics for competitive rates backed by Berkshire Hathaway. GEICO brings nearly 90 years of auto insurance experience now combined with specialized expertise in trucking claims services.

DTFS continues its focus on leveraging Detroit Connect telematics data across its financial services portfolio as part of ongoing innovation efforts.

Daimler Truck Financial Services USA LLC serves as the captive finance partner for Daimler Truck North America LLC. It offers financing, leasing, and insurance solutions designed for commercial vehicle operators across different business sizes.

Daimler Truck Insurance Agency LLC (DTIA), a subsidiary of DTFS, is a licensed agency that connects clients with third-party coverage providers; actual coverage depends on state regulations and policy terms.
