The Colorado Division of Insurance has announced the adoption of Bulletin B-5.54, which addresses the requirement for policyholders to pay auto insurance deductibles. The bulletin responds to reports that some auto repair shops in Colorado have been advertising or carrying out practices where they waive insurance deductibles that policyholders owe when making claims for covered auto damage.

According to the Division, the new bulletin is intended to provide guidance to motor vehicle insurers about these practices. The effective date for Bulletin B-5.54 is October 21, 2025.

The Division stated: "The Division has become aware that certain auto repair shops in Colorado are advertising or engaging in practices that involve waiving insurance deductibles owed by policyholders in connection with covered auto damage claims. The purpose of this bulletin is to provide guidance to motor vehicle insurers regarding such practices."

Further information and access to this and other bulletins are available on the Division's website.
