Nationwide Investment Services has introduced a new program, the Telematics Property Discount, which offers homeowners insurance discounts based on safe driving behavior. This initiative is available in 12 states and is expected to expand further this year. Customers participating in Nationwide's telematics programs, SmartRide or SmartMiles, can earn an average 5% discount on their homeowners policy if they qualify based on their driving habits.
Sarah Jacobs, Senior Vice President of P&C Personal Lines at Nationwide, explained that the program aims to reward responsibility across different aspects of customers' lives. "According to our data, safe drivers are also less likely to experience avoidable home-related damages," she said. The company anticipates that over half of its current telematics users will be eligible for this discount.
The enrollment process is straightforward; once a customer earns a qualifying auto telematics discount, the property discount is automatically applied at the next policy renewal. Jacobs emphasized that this initiative aligns with Nationwide's mission to empower customers by fostering active engagement with their insurance policies. She said, "We’re helping people move from being passive policyholders to active stewards of their homes and vehicles."
The Telematics Property Discount represents how data and innovation can enhance customer value in the insurance sector. More information about usage-based insurance from Nationwide can be found on their website.
