For over twenty years, Chattahoochee Technical College has taken part in the Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) Surplus Property Program. The college was introduced to the program through its relationship with the Museum of Flight at Paulding County Airport and has since obtained various state and federal surplus property items.
The most recent acquisition for the college’s Aviation Maintenance program is a TH-57B Bell Ranger 206 SN 161696 Helicopter. This helicopter will be used as a training tool for students. According to the college, this addition is expected to improve both the curriculum and student experience.
Through access to surplus equipment like this helicopter, students can now work with both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft systems. They learn about starting and running helicopters, as well as understanding differences between these types of aircraft. These skills are considered important for comprehensive aviation maintenance education.
Hands-on learning opportunities provided by such surplus resources are seen as beneficial for students preparing to enter the workforce. Chattahoochee Technical College credits these opportunities to the DOAS Surplus Property Program.
The college expressed appreciation for its partnership with DOAS and encourages other eligible organizations to consider participating in the Surplus Property Program.
