Gables Insurance Recovery founder: New Florida insurers means 'more competition, more options and potentially lower rates'

Florida's property insurance market is gradually stabilizing following legislative reforms, with new carriers entering the state. According to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, Stand Insurance Exchange and Praxis Reciprocal Exchange were approved in September 2025. These companies are the 16th and 17th new insurers since the reforms, contributing $574 million in surplus to enhance competition.

Florida continues to lead the nation in homeowner insurance costs. As reported by Bankrate in September 2025, the average annual premium for a policy with $300,000 dwelling coverage is $5,761, which is significantly higher than the national average of $2,151.

Market growth has been reflected in both insurer participation and policy counts. According to Insurance Journal, by mid-2025 Florida’s property insurance market wrote $23 billion in direct premiums and covered nearly 7.6 million policies. The state welcomed 17 new insurers since 2022 reforms, expanding competition.
