The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the permanent closure of its Mendota office, located at 655 Quince St., effective at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 26.

After the closure, DMV customers in the Mendota area will need to visit other nearby offices for in-person services. The closest alternatives are in Madera at 1206 Maple St. (33 miles away), Fresno at 655 W. Olive Ave. (34 miles away), Fresno North at 6420 N. Blackstone Ave. (41 miles away), and Clovis at 2103 Shaw Ave. (45 miles away).

The DMV is encouraging customers to use its online services for most transactions, including driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals that do not require an office visit. The agency also offers a Service Advisor tool on its website to help users find out how to complete various DMV tasks online.

To receive paperless notices for vehicle registration and driver’s license renewals, customers can sign up or create a secure account through the DMV website.
