Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a series of appointments to state boards and commissions.
Michelle Edgar, based in Santa Monica, has been appointed to the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Edgar is currently the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Edgar Talent Agency and serves as Strategy Lead for Venbrook Insurance Services. Her previous roles include Senior Vice President of Strategy and Operations at Athlete-Driven Worldwide, Senior Director of School and Business Partnerships at Compton Unified School District, Account Director at The Springhill Company, Head of Strategic Partnerships for LiveXLive Media, Vice President of Brand Marketing at Epic Records, and Agent at ICM Partners. She also serves as a commissioner on the Santa Monica Arts and Culture Commission. Edgar holds a Master of Laws from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Music from Northwestern University. This position requires Senate confirmation with compensation set at $100 per diem. Edgar is affiliated with the Democratic Party.
Lindsey Yourman from San Diego has been named to the California Commission on Aging. Yourman works as a Medical Staff Physician and Associate Clinical Professor in Geriatrics, Gerontology, and Palliative Care at the University of California, San Diego. She previously served as Geriatrics Attending Physician at Veterans Affairs San Diego Health System; Chief Geriatric Officer for San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency; Leader of Age-Friendly Health Systems Initiatives; Medical Director for Geriatrics Quality Improvement; Primary Care Physician at St. Paul’s Program for All Inclusive Care for the Elderly; and Internal Medicine Resident at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Yourman participates in several advisory councils related to aging, behavioral health, homelessness, geriatrics societies, medical societies, regional taskforces on homelessness among older adults, and community advisory boards focused on homelessness research. She earned her Doctorate in Medicine from UC San Francisco and her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Harvard University. The appointment does not require Senate confirmation or offer compensation. Yourman is a Democrat.
Jaskiran Grewal from Modesto will join the Dental Board of California. Grewal is Managing Dentist at Smileshine Family Dental with prior experience as General Dentist at Western Dental Clinics. She is active in professional dental associations including the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and Stanislaus Dental Society. Grewal received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from UC San Francisco after earning her Bachelor’s degree from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. This role does not require Senate confirmation but pays $100 per diem. Grewal identifies as Republican.
Timothy Reid from Penn Valley has been appointed to serve on the 17th District Agricultural Association – Nevada County Fair Board. Reid works as Director of Pupil Services for Nevada Joint Union High School District while teaching part-time faculty courses at Sierra Community College since 2015. His background includes serving as Assistant Principal at Nevada Union High School and teaching agriculture-related subjects at Bear River High School earlier in his career. He maintains memberships with organizations such as the California Cattlemen’s Association, California Farm Bureau Federation, and Association of California School Administrators (ACSA). Reid completed his Doctorate in Education through Capella University after earning degrees in agricultural education (California State Polytechnic University) and agriculture business (California State University Chico). No Senate confirmation or compensation is required for this appointment; he has no party preference listed.
Miguel Mauricio from Concord will serve on the 23rd District Agricultural Association – Contra Costa County Fair Board without need for Senate confirmation or compensation offered by this role. Mauricio currently works as Land Use Associate with Miller Starr Regalia law firm following positions including Legal & Policy Director with East Bay Leadership Council; Associate Attorney with Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP; Law Clerk to U.S Senate Judiciary Committee; Economic Policy Advisor during Andrew Yang’s New York City mayoral campaign; Organizer for Biden presidential campaign; Legislative Aide to State Senator Steve Glazer within the California Legislature between 2017–2019 period—he holds both Juris Doctor degree (Yale Law School) plus Bachelor’s degree (UC Berkeley Political Science). Mauricio is affiliated with the Democratic Party.
