The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the relocation of its Santa Maria office. The current office, located at 523 S. McClelland St., will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 20. The new facility, situated at 2850 Santa Maria Way, is set to open at 8 a.m. on Friday, August 1.

According to the DMV, the new office will be significantly larger than the existing one, expanding from 4,387 square feet to 13,500 square feet. This expansion aims to improve service for all customers with updated features and increased parking availability.

During the transition period between June 20 and August 1, customers can visit alternative DMV offices in nearby locations such as Lompoc at 1601 N. H St., approximately 25 miles away from the current Santa Maria site, or San Luis Obispo at 3190 S. Higuera St., about 31 miles away.

The DMV emphasizes that many services do not require an in-person visit and encourages customers to utilize online resources available on their website dmv.ca.gov. Online services include driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals among other transactions. Customers are also encouraged to use the Service Advisor tool on the DMV website for guidance on completing various tasks.

For those interested in receiving paperless notices for vehicle registration and driver’s license renewals, creating a secure online account is necessary through the DMV's official site.
