The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the temporary closure of its Capitola office located at 4200 Capitola Road. The closure, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13, is for renovations that include painting and the replacement of flooring and furniture. The office is expected to reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 25.

During the renovation period, DMV customers are advised to visit alternative offices in the area. These include the Watsonville office at 90 Alta Vista Ave., which is 14 miles from the Capitola location; Los Gatos at 600 N. Santa Cruz Ave., located 25 miles away; Salinas at 260 E. Laurel Drive, situated 35 miles from Capitola; and Seaside at 1180 Canyon Del Rey Blvd., which is 37 miles distant.

The DMV highlights that many services do not require an in-person visit and can be completed online through their website, dmv.ca.gov. "Most customers do not have to visit an office and can do their DMV business" online. This includes various transactions such as driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals. Additionally, customers are encouraged to use the Service Advisor tool available on the DMV website to explore their options for completing tasks.

To receive paperless notices for vehicle registration and driver’s license renewals, customers need to create a secure online account and register on the DMV website.
