Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several appointments to various boards and commissions in California. These appointments include both new members and reappointments.
Paul Henderson, from San Francisco, has been appointed to the California African American Museum Board of Directors. Henderson is currently the Executive Director at the San Francisco Department of Police Accountability, a position he has held since 2017. He previously served as a Senior Policy Advisor with Biden for President in 2020 and was Deputy Chief of Staff in the San Francisco Mayor’s Office from 2011 to 2017. His extensive experience includes multiple roles at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office between 1995 and 2011. "This position does not require Senate confirmation, and there is no compensation," stated the release. Henderson is affiliated with the Democratic Party.
Sinar Lomeli, based in San Marcos, will join the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Lomeli's background includes serving as Counseling Faculty at MiraCosta College since 2016 and prior positions as an Adjunct Counselor and Instructor at Rio Hondo College and Norco College from 2014 to 2016. The appointment requires Senate confirmation with a compensation of $100 per diem, according to the announcement. Lomeli is also a Democrat.
Desirea Haggard from Pinon Hills has been appointed to the Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. She brings her experience as Vice President of Sustainability and Environmental at Unacem North America since 2024, along with previous environmental roles dating back to 2004. This role does not require Senate confirmation but offers $100 per diem compensation. Haggard is registered without party preference.
Christina Wong of Chico has been reappointed to serve on the same board alongside Haggard, where she has been active since 2021. Wong works as a Self-Employed Psychotherapist since last year following years in mental health services coordination roles within Glenn County Health Services Agency among others.
David Rabbitt from Petaluma continues his service on the Alfred E.
