Governor Gavin Newsom participated in the California Highway Patrol Memorial Ceremony to honor the 232 officers who have died in service since the department was founded in 1929. The event took place at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento.
During the ceremony, which included an honor guard procession, a wreath-laying, a rifle salute, and a roll call of the fallen, Governor Newsom expressed his sentiments: "We remember the officers who faced uncertainty and risk with resolve, not because they expected recognition, but because they believed in doing what is right. May their service to this state never be forgotten."
As part of the memorial activities, Governor Newsom also directed that flags be flown at half-staff over both the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space.
