Juan Cornejo Chief Counsel and Deputy Director of the Legal Affairs Division | State of California DMV
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the reopening of its El Cerrito office, located at 6400 Manila Ave., on Monday, May 12. The office will resume operations at 8 a.m. after being closed since February 28 for the replacement of its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.
The DMV is encouraging customers to utilize its online services for most transactions. "Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit," the department stated, highlighting that many simple self-service transactions are no longer available in offices. The agency advises using online services and other service channels for completing transactions like driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals.
Additionally, the DMV offers a Service Advisor tool on its website to help customers understand their options for completing various tasks. For those interested in receiving paperless notices for vehicle registration and driver's license renewals, the DMV requires opting in by creating a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov.
