Edward D. Swenson Chief Deputy Director | State of California DMV
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) revealed that certain offices will be open on Saturday, May 10, for REAL ID appointments from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. These hours are exclusively for those with appointments to obtain a REAL ID, as no other DMV services will be available during this time.
As of May 7, 2025, the federal government will enforce the REAL ID Act, which mandates presenting a REAL ID or another approved federal document, such as a valid U.S. passport, for domestic flights and entry into secure federal sites. Californians may continue to apply for their REAL ID even after the enforcement date.
The following DMV offices will be accessible by appointment on Saturday:
- Concord (2070 Diamond Blvd.)
- Fullerton (909 W. Valencia Drive)
- Glendale (1335 W. Glenoaks Blvd.)
- Oakland (5300 Claremont Ave.)
- Poway (13461 Community Road)
- Riverside East (6425 Sycamore Canyon Blvd.)
- Roseville (7200 Galilee Road)
- San Clemente (2727 Via Cascadita)
- San Jose (111 W. Alma Ave.)
- Thousand Oaks (1810 E. Avenida De Los Arboles)
- West Covina (800 S. Glendora Ave.)
Californians can begin their REAL ID applications online at REALID.dmv.ca.gov and upload necessary documents. Visiting a DMV location with physical copies of uploaded documents is required to finalize the process. The DMV stresses the importance of making an appointment and starting the application online to minimize wait times. Completing the online process and scheduling an appointment is expected to take only 20 to 30 minutes in the office.
The DMV is encouraging customers to utilize its online services for various tasks that previously required in-office visits. Many transactions can be done online, including certain driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals. The DMV website offers a Service Advisor to guide customers on how to fulfill DMV tasks digitally.
Additionally, customers can opt for paperless registrations and license renewal notices by signing up for a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov.
