David Tangipa, a member of the California State Assembly representing the 8th District, has expressed concerns about what he describes as a mounting insurance crisis in the state. He attributes this situation to a series of compounding issues stemming from failed leadership. Tangipa shared his statement on X.

"California's recipe for disaste," said Tangipa, Member, California State Assembly. "Job losses, soaring fuel costs, rising prices, energy instability, overregulation, insurance crisis, massive city/county deficits, collapsing healthcare and an unsustainable state budget. This is the result of failed leadership."

California's Department of Insurance has announced the development of a Sustainable Insurance Strategy aimed at addressing climate-related risks and instability within the insurance market. The initiative seeks to expand coverage availability, enhance data transparency, and modernize regulations to stabilize the market. These updates come in response to insurers limiting or withdrawing coverage due to increased wildfire threats and other climate impacts.

According to the California FAIR Plan Association, California ranks among the highest in insurance premium costs nationwide. As of 2023, average homeowners insurance premiums have reached over $1,300 annually, reflecting a 17% increase over five years. This rise is largely driven by increasing catastrophe risks and regulatory challenges, which have contributed to reduced insurer participation in the state.

As reported by the Employment Development Department, California's unemployment rate stands at 5.3% as of March 2025. This figure is higher than the national average and indicates ongoing economic pressures within the state. Approximately 1 million Californians are currently unemployed.

Tangipa is a former U.S. Marine who now serves as an Assemblyman for District 8. His campaign platform emphasizes public safety, tax reduction, and education policies. He has also voiced support for small businesses while opposing certain state-level regulations.
