California and Los Angeles continue recovery efforts 100 days after devastating fires

Governor Gavin Newsom has committed to the recovery of Los Angeles as a top priority in the wake of the Eaton and Palisades fires. One hundred days since the fires began, California continues to deal with losses while acknowledging the efforts of first responders and workers involved in rebuilding efforts aimed at creating stronger, more resilient communities.

Newsom stated, "My job is to make sure Californians who felt helpless after the fires are able to have hope again. Our work is far from over — but 100 days since the fires first broke out in early January, California remains united and together will rebuild, recover and rise."

The Governor directed efforts from the outset, deploying over 16,000 personnel to respond to the fires. Additionally, he collaborated with federal authorities to secure disaster declarations and support for Los Angeles.

Currently, California is progressing toward what could become the fastest disaster cleanup in the country's history, surpassing previous efforts with the Camp, Woolsey, Hill, and Tubbs Fires. In collaboration with the Army Corps of Engineers, state and federal teams have cleared hazardous waste from 9,000 homes in just 30 days.

More than 2,300 homes have had debris removed, with ongoing efforts for further stabilization. Several initiatives have been introduced to streamline processes and provide relief. Efforts include expediting the rebuilding of affected areas, postponing tax deadlines for Los Angeles County, and securing mortgage relief for survivors in specific areas.

Governor Newsom has also eased the construction of temporary housing and prevented evictions of those offering shelter to fire survivors. Delegating resources for debris removal and flood prevention remains a focus, along with safeguarding survivors from potential price gouging.

Significant funding has been directed toward emergency efforts and recovery initiatives through LA Rises. The Governor's plans also address needs such as educational stability and protection against real estate speculation, while providing relief to businesses to accelerate recovery.
