Sonia Huestis Deputy Director of the Customer Services Division | State of California DMV
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced a temporary closure of its El Cerrito office. The closure is necessary for the replacement of its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The office, located at 6400 Manila Ave., will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 28, and is expected to reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 12.
During the closure, customers are advised to visit alternative locations. The nearest DMV offices include Oakland Claremont at 5300 Claremont Ave., Oakland Coliseum at 501 85th Ave., Vallejo at 200 Couch St., and Concord at 2070 Diamond Blvd. These offices range from 10 to 23 miles from the El Cerrito location.
The DMV is encouraging customers to utilize online services where possible. Many DMV tasks can now be completed digitally, which eliminates the need for a physical office visit. These include self-service transactions and eligible renewals for driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations. Customers can explore their options through the Service Advisor tool on the DMV website.
For those interested in receiving paperless renewal notices for vehicle registration and driver’s licenses, the DMV advises customers to create a secure online account and register at dmv.ca.gov.
