Antwuan Brown, a 39-year-old resident of Alpharetta, Georgia, appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Linda T. Walker, facing federal charges related to fentanyl distribution. The charges allege that Brown planned to distribute approximately 240,000 fentanyl pills and 4.5 kilograms of fentanyl powder. This seizure is considered the largest in the district’s history.
Speaking on the matter, Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. stated, "Our federal and local law enforcement partners undoubtedly saved countless lives through their diligent investigation and seizure of this immense quantity of deadly fentanyl." He further emphasized the ongoing efforts with various law enforcement agencies to counter fentanyl distribution in communities.
Jae W. Chung, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Division, reiterated the DEA’s commitment to fighting the fentanyl crisis by "holding the most dangerous and prolific drug traffickers accountable," noting the high mortality rate linked to fentanyl among Americans aged 18-45.
The Sandy Springs Police Department, involved in the investigation, also expressed their commitment to combating illegal drugs, particularly fentanyl. "We appreciate the U.S. Attorney's Office in Atlanta for their support and for prosecuting this case," a department representative said.
On March 21, 2025, as part of a drug trafficking investigation, DEA’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program investigators, alongside Sandy Springs Police Department officers, executed search warrants at an apartment and vehicle in Sandy Springs. Items found included a pill press containing fentanyl powder and firearms. Brown was apprehended at the scene after officers discovered fentanyl pills and powder in a vehicle tied to him.
While Brown faces these charges, he remains presumed innocent. The government carries the burden to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in court. Assisting with the prosecution is Assistant United States Attorney Matthew R. LaGrone.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a national effort to combat illegal activities such as drug trafficking and protect communities.
