Governor Newsom honors fallen King City police sergeant

Governor Gavin Newsom has released a statement following the death of King City Police Department Sergeant Ryan Kenedy. The sergeant passed away after experiencing a medical emergency while on duty on March 25, 2025.

“Jennifer and I mourn alongside the King City community over the sudden passing of Sergeant Kenedy. Our hearts are with his loved ones and colleagues,” stated Governor Newsom.

Sergeant Kenedy began his career with the King City Police Department in 2014 as a patrol officer and was promoted to police sergeant in January 2020. He is survived by his wife and parents.

To honor Sergeant Kenedy, flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will be flown at half-staff.
