Governor Gavin Newsom has expressed his condolences following the death of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Hector Cuevas Jr. The deputy died on March 17, 2025, during a vehicle pursuit that resulted in a traffic crash at an intersection in Victorville, California.
Governor Newsom stated, “Jennifer and I are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Deputy Cuevas. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues as they navigate this unimaginable time. His dedication to protecting and serving his community was remarkable, and we are eternally grateful for his service.”
Deputy Cuevas was 36 years old and had served in law enforcement for six years. He had been with the Victorville Station for three years after previously working as an officer with the Upland Police Department.
He leaves behind a wife, two children, his parents, a sister, and a brother. In recognition of Deputy Cuevas's service, flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will be flown at half-staff.
