Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several appointments to key positions within California's state government. Andrew King of Sacramento has been appointed as Deputy Director of Data Operations Strategy at the Office of Data and Innovation. King's career includes roles at the California Air Resources Board and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, among others. He holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from UC Berkeley. His new role does not require Senate confirmation, with compensation set at $168,468.
Lavelle Parker from Rancho Cucamonga has been named Warden of the California Institution for Women. Parker previously served as Acting Warden and Chief Deputy Warden at various institutions since 2020. His extensive experience in corrections spans over three decades, starting in 1992. This appointment also does not require Senate confirmation, with a salary of $193,524.
Yolanda Franco-Clausen from Hayward joins the California Sex Offender Management Board. Franco-Clausen is currently a Police Officer with Palo Alto Police Department and has prior experience as a Job Development Coordinator and Executive Director. They hold a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern California School of Law. This position carries no compensation or need for Senate confirmation.
Sarah Metz from Alameda is also appointed to the same board alongside Franco-Clausen. Dr. Metz is affiliated with UCSF's Division of Trauma Recovery Services and has worked extensively in psychology within various health systems since 2010. She earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University among other qualifications. Like Franco-Clausen's appointment, this role does not involve compensation or require Senate approval.
