As California braces for a series of storms this week, Governor Gavin Newsom has instructed the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) to collaborate with partner agencies across the state to ensure community safety. The state's response includes pre-deploying over 400 personnel.

The storms are anticipated to affect much of California from Wednesday through Friday, bringing heavy rain, mountain snow, and strong winds. Southern California may experience increased debris flow risk in areas affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires, as well as other recent burn scars. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for parts of Southern California, with rain totals expected to reach up to 2 inches in lower elevations and 4 inches in higher areas.

Governor Newsom stated, "As California faces more severe weather, we’re deploying fire and rescue resources throughout the state to protect communities. At the same time, we’re continuing our efforts to protect Altadena and the Palisades from potential debris flows. If you’re in the path of these storms, please prepare now and listen to local authorities."

To prepare for the weather system, Cal OES has positioned over 400 personnel across Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Los Angeles, Napa, Nevada, Orange, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties. Resources include fire engines, swift water rescue teams, urban search and rescue units, dozers, and helicopters.

In Los Angeles County's recent burn scar areas, coordination continues with local emergency management departments to ensure resource availability ahead of adverse weather conditions. Cal OES has deployed various resources including engine strike teams and rescue crews specifically for Los Angeles.

State specialized staff have maintained recovery coordination efforts since the fires began. They are prepared for any weather impacts alongside state and federal partners. Additional storm-fighting resources are ready for prompt response.

Residents should take precautions such as signing up for alerts at ListosCalifornia.org/alerts and preparing go-bags with essential items. Learning evacuation routes and preparing for power outages is advised. Travelers should avoid mountain travel during severe weather conditions and check road conditions via Caltrans QuickMap at quickmap.dot.ca.gov.

Authorities urge residents in affected counties to stay informed through local channels and visit ready.ca.gov for further preparation tips.
