The U.S. Department of Labor has announced temporary relief measures for workers and their families whose access to job-based health plan coverage may have been disrupted by Hurricane Helene or Hurricane Milton. The Flexible Benefits Program participants affected by these hurricanes in specified disaster areas will receive deadline extensions for various benefit-related changes.
These extensions apply to elections, notifications, payments, and claims/appeals for covered individuals. This includes any participant, beneficiary, qualified beneficiary, or claimant who resided, lived, or worked in one of the disaster areas at the time of the hurricane or tropical storm.
In Georgia, this extension period began on September 24, 2024, and will continue through May 1, 2025. Alight (GaBreeze) is responsible for notifying impacted participants within the designated disaster areas via email based on their home address zip codes about these deadline extensions.
For more detailed information and examples of benefit changes due to this extension, individuals are encouraged to read the full notice regarding the deadline extension. Additional information regarding 2025 Flexible Benefits can be found on Team Georgia's pages under "Benefits Overview" and "Virtual Benefits Fair."
