Governor Gavin Newsom has officially declared January 31, 2025, through February 7, 2025, as CalEITC Awareness Week. The announcement was made to emphasize the importance of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in supporting working families and children by providing a boost in income that helps meet basic needs.

The proclamation highlights the positive impacts of EITC, stating that it "improves child and maternal health and the educational outcomes of children in families who receive it and spurs local economic growth." This year marks the 10th anniversary of California's own version of this program, known as the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC). Over its decade-long existence, CalEITC has contributed $7.3 billion back into the pockets of working families across the state.

Governor Newsom emphasized California's commitment to ensuring that all eligible families benefit from these supports. He encouraged residents to determine their eligibility for various tax credits such as the California Earned Income Tax Credit, Young Child Tax Credit, or Foster Youth Tax Credit by visiting ftb.ca.gov/caleitc.

The Governor concluded his proclamation with: "NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim January 31, 2025 through February 7, 2025, as 'CalEITC Awareness Week.'"

The proclamation was signed on January 30th by Governor Newsom and attested by Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber.
