Governor Gavin Newsom welcomed President Trump to Los Angeles, where they discussed collaboration to aid firestorm survivors and secure federal assistance. The meeting took place at Los Angeles International Airport as the President arrived to survey fire-damaged areas.

Standing beside Air Force One, Governor Newsom emphasized cooperation with the federal government for recovery efforts in Los Angeles. He stated, "We welcome President Trump to California with an open hand. Just as President Trump supported California during the pandemic, we will work together again for firestorm survivors and communities across Los Angeles who deserve all the help they can get from federal, state and local governments."

Governor Newsom also highlighted ongoing measures to protect against potential mudslides due to expected rains. He reassured residents by saying, "While we work on recovery, we’re also deploying crews across the region to protect against potential mudslides from the rains expected this weekend. We’re not out of the woods but the people of Los Angeles should know we’re not leaving your side."

Recently, Governor Newsom signed a $2.5 billion disaster relief package for Los Angeles, with $118 million already allocated for response and recovery efforts. Crews are being deployed to prevent mudslides in affected areas using various materials like sandbags and wood stakes.

The California Conservation Corps is involved in watershed protection activities while over 80 National Guard members assist at a debris basin in Sierra Madre Villa. The Governor has issued several executive orders aimed at aiding rebuilding efforts, providing tax relief, fast-tracking temporary housing solutions, mobilizing debris removal operations, safeguarding against price gouging, and protecting victims from real estate speculators.

Californians impacted by wildfires can access resources through CA.gov/LAfires or apply for disaster assistance online or via FEMA's services.
