California is actively providing aid to individuals affected by the Los Angeles fires, ensuring access to essential services such as health care, food, water, and shelter. The state, through the California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS) and its departments, has taken swift measures in collaboration with local, state, and federal partners.

Governor Gavin Newsom emphasized the state's commitment: “Those impacted by this disaster – especially our most vulnerable residents – need our support more than ever, and we are here to help." Efforts include reopening child care and senior living centers, expanding mental health resources, and ensuring access to food and drinking water.

The fires have caused evacuations and destruction of facilities like child care programs and nursing homes. The state is working on administrative flexibilities to address immediate needs and facilitate quick reopening. CalHHS Secretary Kim Johnson stated that the agency is focused on "a responsive, equitable, and swift recovery" for vulnerable populations.

Key initiatives include simplified Medi-Cal enrollment processes through the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and waivers for prescription medications. Mental health services remain accessible via county behavioral health plans. The CalHOPE Warm Line offers emotional support 24/7 for those affected by the wildfires.

For food security, California has allocated $1 million in emergency funding for food boxes and potable water distribution. Federal waivers allow CalFresh recipients to purchase hot foods during this period. Future efforts will seek additional resources like Disaster CalFresh benefits.
