The Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire (OCI) in Georgia has announced an extension for the enrollment deadline for health coverage that will begin on January 1, 2025. The new deadline is set for December 20, allowing more time for residents to select their plans.

Commissioner King emphasized the importance of open enrollment as a time for Georgians to explore affordable health coverage options. Cheryl Gardner, Executive Director of Georgia Access, highlighted the flexibility provided by a State-based exchange (SBE), which allows states to better serve their residents. She noted that "the decision to extend the deadline was made because Georgia Access is still a new program and may be unfamiliar to some consumers." Additionally, recent natural disasters have impacted many potential enrollees.

To ensure coverage starts on January 1, residents must choose their plans by December 20. Those enrolling after this date will see their coverage commence on February 1, 2025.

Georgia Access offers a range of quality and affordable insurance plans tailored to meet the needs of state residents. More than 16,000 certified agents are available to help consumers navigate their options through various channels such as the Georgia Access Portal, web brokers, and insurance companies.

For assistance or more information, residents can visit GeorgiaAccess.gov or contact the Georgia Access center at 888-687-1503.
