JonBenét Ramsey's murder in 1996 remains a mystery nearly three decades later. Her father, John Ramsey, recently expressed gratitude for renewed interest in the case as a new Netflix docuseries is set to be released.
John Ramsey, now 80, appeared on the "Today" show on November 21 to discuss the upcoming series titled "Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey." He stated, "We want to keep the case alive and in front of people. I believe it can be solved if the police accept help from outside their system. That’s been the flaw for 25 years."
While acknowledging that not all attention has been positive, he added, "I am grateful that the public, and frankly the world, cares about the murder of our child."
JonBenét was found dead on December 26 in her family's Boulder home basement. The discovery followed a ransom note demanding $118,000 for her return. Police determined she was beaten and strangled on Christmas Day night.
Initially, authorities investigated several suspects including JonBenét's parents under an "umbrella of suspicion." Her brother Burke also faced scrutiny from conspiracy theorists but was later cleared along with his parents.
The house where JonBenét was found has struggled to shed its dark past despite being listed multiple times since her death. The current owners bought it in 2004 for $1.05 million and have tried selling it at various prices without success.
The property is estimated at $4.2 million today but remains off-market due to its grim history overshadowing its charm and prime location near the University of Colorado Boulder.
Boulder police continue to pursue leads though no resolution has been reached despite numerous books and TV specials covering this unsolved case. The forthcoming Netflix series aims to revisit these events once more.
