Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles has announced that the Chico office, located at 107 Parmac Road #1, will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 19. The office had been closed since August 8 for roof replacement.
Residents in the area are encouraged to use this reopening as an opportunity to apply for a REAL ID. This application requires an office visit. Starting May 7, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will mandate a valid passport or other federally approved documents, such as a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card, for boarding flights within the United States and accessing secure federal facilities and military bases.
To minimize wait times at the DMV office, applicants should first visit REALID.dmv.ca.gov to complete the online application, upload necessary documents, and print their confirmation code. Applicants need to bring these documents and the confirmation code to finalize their transaction at the DMV office. Typically, it takes less than 10 minutes to complete the REAL ID transaction once at a service window.
The DMV advises customers to utilize its online services whenever possible. Many tasks do not require an office visit and can be completed through digital platforms. These include simple self-service transactions that are no longer available in offices. Customers can also use the Service Advisor tool on the DMV website to explore options for completing various DMV tasks.
For those interested in paperless vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal notices, signing up is straightforward: create or log into a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov and opt-in for paperless notifications.
