Sonder Health Plans, Inc. has been placed into receivership by order of the Superior Court of Fulton County as of August 13, 2025. The action was taken after the company was found to be insolvent and unable to secure additional funding from investors. Prior to this decision, Sonder Health Plans had been under administrative supervision since April 11, 2025, in an effort to address a reported surplus deficiency.

The Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner monitored Sonder Health Plans during this period and determined that continued operation would pose risks to policyholders and providers. As a result, all Medicare Advantage plans offered by Sonder Health Plans will end on October 1, 2025.

Policyholders with Medicare Advantage, Chronic Special Needs Plan, or Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan coverage through Sonder will not lose their Medicare benefits. However, they are encouraged to select a new Medicare Advantage plan from another insurer before October 1, 2025. To facilitate this transition, the Office coordinated with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to implement a special enrollment period running from August 13 through October 31, 2025.

“IMPORTANT NOTE: Sonder Health Plan policyholders will not lose Medicare coverage even if they do not enroll in a new health plan with a different insurer. If a policyholder does not enroll in a new health plan, they will revert to Original Medicare and will be auto-enrolled into a Medicare Part D plan covering prescription drugs.”

If members do not choose a new plan by September 30, they will automatically revert to Original Medicare and be enrolled in a Part D drug plan. Policyholders can still select another Medicare Advantage Plan until October 31. Impacted individuals are advised to visit www.SonderHealthPlans-InReceivership.com for help with selecting new coverage.

Providers are instructed to continue servicing all members covered by Sonder Health Plans without demanding payment beyond the required cost share associated with services under the relevant health plan.

“Providers must continue to service all Sonder Health Plans members and should not demand payment from members of anything other than the proper cost share associated with the medical service and relevant health plan. Providers should visit www.SonderHealthPlans-InReceivership.com for additional information.”

The mission of the Office Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire is stated as follows: “to protect Georgia families by providing access to vital insurance products and safe buildings through fair regulation that creates economic opportunities for all Georgians.”
