The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) has recognized U.S. Representative Austin Scott with the 2025 PIA Legislator of the Year Award. The award was presented during PIA’s Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, acknowledging Scott’s efforts in reinstating the annual inflation adjustment for crop insurance agents’ compensation.

Corey Weeks, PIA’s Manager of Government Relations, said, “With Rep. Scott’s leadership, nearly a decade of advocacy by PIA and its crop insurance allies has finally paid off.” This achievement addresses a long-standing issue that began when the Risk Management Agency stopped providing these adjustments in 2016.

Scott played a key role in passing the bipartisan “Ensuring Access to Risk Management Act,” which led to the inclusion of crucial provisions in a budget bill signed into law in July. Mike Skiados, CEO of PIA, praised Scott’s contributions as Vice-Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee: “Independent insurance agents nationwide are grateful for Rep. Scott’s leadership.”

The PIA is a national trade association established in 1931, representing member insurance agents who specialize in various types of coverage including automobiles and homes. More information can be found at www.pianational.org.

Austin Scott has consistently secured his congressional seat through multiple elections, defeating opponents such as Darrius Butler and Lindsay Holliday with significant margins over several years.
