Ovation Home Insurance Exchange has advised Florida homeowners to consider purchasing flood insurance, highlighting that the risk of flooding extends beyond coastal areas. This recommendation was made in a recent blog post by the company.

According to Ovation Home Insurance Exchange, standard homeowners’ policies do not include flood insurance, which must be bought separately to cover losses from rising water. The company states that flood damage can occur due to heavy rainfall, storm surge, or drainage overflow—none of which are covered under typical property insurance. Ovation notes common claim denials from homeowners unaware of this exclusion and encourages all Florida residents, regardless of location, to assess their flood risk and coverage needs.

In its July 11 blog post, Ovation provides multiple examples of inland flooding to illustrate that flood risk is not confined to coastal areas. The company references Hurricane Ian’s impact in 2022, which resulted in 500-year flood conditions in Seminole County and dropped over 16 inches of rain in parts of Orlando, overwhelming local drainage systems. It also mentions recent flooding in North Miami, where residents faced recurring water damage from non-hurricane rainfall, exposing infrastructure vulnerabilities in supposedly low-risk areas.

The blog further emphasizes the importance for homeowners to understand the distinction between flood coverage and water backup protection. Flooding involves rising water from outside the home and requires a separate flood insurance policy. In contrast, water backup—caused by sewer clogs, sump failures, or drain blockages—is not automatically covered but can be added as an endorsement. Ovation recommends that Florida homeowners consider both types of coverage to protect against various water-related risks often associated with storm activity.

According to its official website, Ovation Home Insurance Exchange is a Florida-based insurer specializing in customizable homeowners’ policies tailored for weather-related challenges unique to the region. The company focuses on risk education, policy transparency, and layered coverage options. These include endorsements for water backup and guidance on acquiring flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program or private markets. Ovation positions itself as a proactive insurer committed to helping homeowners prepare for Florida’s evolving environmental risks.
