The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) has recognized the Idaho Department of Insurance for its recent actions aimed at promoting fairness and consumer choice in the state’s Medicare Advantage marketplace. The Department issued two cease and desist orders targeting practices that could affect both insurance carriers and consumers.
One order, concerning PacificSource Health Plans (Docket No. 18-4776-25), is intended to ensure continued access to Medicare Advantage plans for Idaho seniors while also safeguarding agent compensation. NAIFA expressed support for measures that encourage clear communication and equitable practices within the industry.
“We appreciate the Department’s commitment to maintaining a fair, transparent, and competitive environment for both carriers and consumers and applaud Director Cameron’s leadership,” NAIFA stated.
A second order addressed UnitedHealthcare of the Rockies and Care Improvement Plus South-Central Insurance Company (Docket No. 18-4775-25). This action was taken to address concerns about agent compensation as well as consumer access to Medicare options. NAIFA emphasized the importance of preserving choice and transparency for beneficiaries in Idaho.
“By addressing concerns about agent compensation and consumer access, the Department is helping to preserve choice and transparency for Idaho’s Medicare beneficiaries. We value the Department’s collaborative approach and its dedication to upholding high standards across the industry,” NAIFA said.
The association also reiterated its support for independent agents who help consumers understand their insurance choices, describing them as trusted professionals providing personalized guidance throughout Idaho. NAIFA affirmed its commitment to working with regulators, agents, field marketing organizations, and carriers to make sure residents receive necessary coverage.
“We believe that ongoing dialogue and partnership are essential to a healthy insurance marketplace, and we look forward to continued collaboration with all stakeholders in all states,” NAIFA concluded.
