Kin Insurance has released survey results indicating that 81 percent of California homeowners have taken steps such as removing vegetation and sealing gaps to mitigate wildfire risks to their properties.

According to Kin Insurance’s blog post, the survey was designed to examine the difficulties California homeowners face in obtaining affordable home insurance amid rising premiums and threats from natural disasters. Conducted online by Pollfish on November 4, 2025, it targeted a representative sample of 1,000 single-family homeowners in the state aged between 18 and 65.

The California Department of Insurance said that wildfire safety measures are incentivized to reduce insurance costs. Consumers who implement home-hardening can access better pricing under the system. Mitigation efforts are incorporated into rate models to promote affordability.

The American Society of Civil Engineers reported that 79.8 million properties in the United States are at some level of wildfire risk. Of these, 49.4 million are considered at minor risk according to a 30-year estimation model. National data indicates widespread exposure necessitating homeowner actions.

Kin is a technology company founded in 2016 that offers home insurance through a data-driven platform. It provides policies directly to consumers in states including California. Insurers like Kin assist homeowners facing coverage challenges by offering accessible and tech-based options.
