Investigation underway after fatal fire in Thomas County

A residential fire along Georgia Highway 188 in Thomas County is currently under investigation, as announced by Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King. The blaze occurred in the early hours of April 9, prompting a response from the Thomas County Fire Department due to reports of a possible victim.

“Firefighters were able to locate a victim inside and another individual who was injured in the fire,” stated Commissioner King. So far, investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s office have reported extensive damage to over 95% of the property. “The cause of the fire will be classified as undetermined.”

The investigation involves collaboration with the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office and the Thomas County Fire Department.
