The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) has launched new awareness campaigns in Los Angeles, California, and Cook County, Illinois. The campaigns aim to inform the public about the economic impact of legal system abuse in these states.
The initiative includes billboards and digital advertisements placed in high-traffic areas. A dedicated website, StopLegalSystemAbuse.org, and targeted social media ads encourage residents to contact their state lawmakers about the issue.
“As we continue to be inundated across the U.S. by the likes of billboard attorneys preying on vulnerable Americans and increasing insurance costs for everyone, now is the time for further action from California and Illinois lawmakers,” said Triple-I CEO Sean Kevelighan. “We have seen positive results in states such as Florida that comprehensive legal reform works – leading to market stabilization, more competition and better pricing of insurance for consumers.”
Billboards on major highways in both Cook County—which includes Chicago—and Los Angeles highlight how legal system abuse affects insurance premiums. Digital displays at bus stops and other urban locations focus on how certain trial lawyers contribute to higher costs.
Both regions were listed by the American Tort Reform Foundation as among the top 10 jurisdictions with widespread legal system abuse for 2025-2026. Triple-I’s campaign seeks to raise awareness about how this abuse increases auto, home, and business insurance costs, affecting local economies.
Triple-I recently updated its StopLegalSystemAbuse.org resource site as part of these efforts.
