Homebuying trends shift in top U.S beach cities amid increased listings

Thirteen of the nation’s largest housing markets, known for their beachside allure and urban amenities, are experiencing an increase in home listings compared to last year, according to a recent Realtor.com report. This trend suggests less competition among buyers and potentially lower prices.

Ron Myers, president of Ron Buys Florida Homes, attributes this rise in listings to the return-to-office trend. “During the height of remote work, many people relocated to beach towns for lifestyle reasons. But now they’re choosing to sell as they get called back to the office,” he said.

Realtor.com defined a “beach city” as a metro area on any coast, including the Great Lakes. The following cities have seen significant increases in home listings:

**Tampa, FL**
– Median house price: $415,000
– Listings up by 90.1%

Ralph McLaughlin, senior economist at Realtor.com®, noted that Tampa saw the most inventory growth among major metros.

**San Diego, CA**
– Median house price: $999,000
– Listings up by 80.4%

San Diego’s beaches like Mission Beach and La Jolla Shores remain popular despite rising property listings.

**Miami, FL**
– Median house price: $530,000
– Listings up by 72.2%

Miami offers diverse nightlife at South Beach and tranquility at North Beach along its extensive Atlantic coastline.

**Seattle, WA**
– Median house price: $775,000
– Listings up by 69.3%

Seattle features notable beaches such as Alki Beach along Puget Sound and Seward Park on Lake Washington.

**Jacksonville, FL**
– Median house price: $409,850
– Listings up by 68.3%

Jacksonville boasts beaches like Jacksonville Beach with miles of powder-white sand.

**Los Angeles, CA**
– Median house price: $1,190,000
– Listings up by 41.6%

Iconic beaches such as Venice Beach and Santa Monica Beach define Los Angeles’ coastal appeal.

**San Francisco, CA**
– Median house price: $969,000
– Listings up by 31.3%

San Francisco’s Ocean Beach and Baker Beach offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Golden Gate Bridge respectively.

**Boston, MA**
– Median house price: $834,500
– Listings up by 26.3%

Boston features waterfront areas like Pleasure Bay with views of Boston Harbor.

**Virginia Beach**, VA
