“Jennifer and I join the world in mourning the death of Brian Wilson, a musical genius and California icon,” said Governor Newsom. He emphasized how Wilson “fundamentally changed modern music” and contributed to making the Beach Boys synonymous with California culture.

Wilson’s ability to capture “the mystique and magic of California” was noted by Newsom, who acknowledged that this essence was shared globally through generations. Despite facing personal challenges throughout his life, Wilson found peace through his family and music.

The governor concluded by acknowledging Wilson’s enduring legacy: “He leaves a legacy that, like any one of the Beach Boys’ hits, will not be forgotten.”
