Residents affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires are being encouraged to participate in rebuilding efforts through the Engaged California platform. Governor Gavin Newsom has called on those impacted by the January fires to sign up for this initiative, which aims to involve community members in shaping their future.

“Recovery isn’t something that happens to you, it happens with you,” said Governor Newsom. “The feedback generated from the Engaged California process is reflective of residents’ experiences and is needed for leaders to understand their vision for rebuilding the future.”

Participants who join will have the opportunity to share ideas on how Altadena and the Palisades should be rebuilt, focusing on both immediate and long-term recovery strategies. California Government Operations Secretary Nick Maduros highlighted the importance of listening to those who experienced the tragedy firsthand.

Engaged California was launched as a response tool following the fire recovery, with nearly 8,000 individuals participating so far. It marks a first for California in using a digital platform at this scale to gather input from wildfire survivors.

“This is a significant milestone in a brand-new program for the State of California,” said Jeffery Marino, Director of the Office of Data and Innovation. The state has taken early actions based on feedback received from participants.

Some initiatives include launching Archistar, an AI-driven software tool designed to streamline rebuilding permit approvals, and introducing CalAssist Mortgage Fund for homeowners whose properties were destroyed or damaged. Additionally, mental health resources have been made available through ca.gov/lafires.

Governor Newsom’s administration continues to prioritize efficiency and engagement since its inception in 2019. The integration of AI technologies into state services aims to improve government responsiveness and effectiveness.
