Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino Counties following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Northern California. The decision aims to bolster the region’s emergency response efforts.

“Today’s emergency proclamation will allow more resources to go where needed for emergency response to this morning’s earthquake,” stated Governor Newsom. “I am grateful for the robust system our state has in place that worked as intended today and kept people safe and informed.”

The proclamation enables state agencies and departments to utilize personnel, equipment, and facilities as directed by the Office of Emergency Services and the State Emergency Plan. It also authorizes contracts for necessary materials, goods, and services to aid in the earthquake’s aftermath. Additionally, it permits fairgrounds and state property use for sheltering needs and allows CalGuard mobilization to support disaster relief efforts.

Further details on the emergency proclamation are available through official channels.
